Sunil Bharti Mittal donates Rs 4 crores (USD 1 million) for education of underprivileged children in the villages

New Delhi, July 25, 2007: In response to the call made by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to industry captains to moderate their compensation and participate in community programs, Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharti Airtel Limited today decided to donate a significant part of his salary bonus towards education of underprivileged children in the villages.

According to Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, “This underlines corporate India’s commitment towards fulfilling the Government’s vision of inclusive growth. Corporate India will continue to work with the Government and voluntarily contribute towards this cause.”

The donation will be administered by Bharti Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Bharti Enterprises.

Bharti Foundation is working towards opening 1000 village primary schools across India for underprivileged children, in particular the girl child. The promoters and associates of Bharti had committed a corpus of Rs. 200 crores for various programs undertaken by Bharti Foundation.
