Sunil Bharti Mittal receives ‘The Honorary Fellowship’ from IETE

Past recipients include Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Dr. Homi J Bhabha, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Mr. Ratan N Tata

New Delhi, October 2, 2006 : The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) has conferred its highest honour ‘The Honorary Fellowship’ on Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharti Airtel Limited for his scientific vision and invaluable contribution to the progress of electronics & telecommunications.

The honour is accorded on persons of eminence who are achievers in the filed of Electronics, Telecommunication and Information Technology or have made valuable contribution in the aforesaid fields for the betterment of the society. The past recipients of ‘The Honorary Fellowship’ from IETE includes some very distinguished names - Dr. S Radhakrishnan (1955), Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru (1963), Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri (1965), Dr. Homi J Bhabha (1966), Mr. Ratan N Tata (1992), Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam (1994), Prof Yash Pal (1996), Dr. RA Mashelkar (1998), Mr. Azim H Premji (2000) and Dr. FC Kohli (2003).

On the occasion Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal said, "It’s a privilege to be accorded this honour by a distinguished institution such as the IETE. I truly thank the IETE for having considered me worthy of this honour."

The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is India's leading professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication & IT. Founded in 1953, it serves more than 52,000 members through its 52 centres all over India and abroad.
