Sunil Bharti Mittal conferred Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award
New Delhi, Tuesday, December 15, 2009: Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman & Group CEO, Bharti Enterprises was presented the tenth Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil. The award is conferred on an individual for his / her invaluable contribution in the fields of Public Administration, Academics and Management by the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, Delhi (LBSIM). The award was presented to Mr. Mittal at a function organized at the Rashtrapati Bhawan today.
Receiving the honour Mr. Mittal said, “I am privileged to receive this award that has been instituted in the honour of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, an epitome of ethics, transparency and efficiency in public life. Shastri Ji believed in simplicity and always worked for the cause of the common man. I believe his values will always be a beacon for the Indian industry as it scales new heights.”
This award is yet another recognition of the immense contribution made by Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal towards the society and the nation. Mr. Mittal has been conferred the coveted Padma Bhushan Award by the Government of India for his contribution towards the development of a world-class telecom sector in the country, resulting in the economic development of the nation. Mr. Mittal, was awarded the prestigious JRD Tata Corporate Leadership Award for his outstanding contribution to the Indian industry recognising him as a distinguished corporate leader who has consistently maintained exceptional standards in professional management. He was also presented the GSMA Chairman’s Award, the Association’s most prestigious honour, for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of mobile communications around the world.
