Bharti Foundation wins the Economic Times ‘Corporate Citizen of the Year Award’

Award recognizes Satya Bharti School initiatives for improving the quality and delivery of education

New Delhi, January 11, 2011 : Bharti Foundation, the philanthropy arm of Bharti Enterprises has won the Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence for "its focus on improving the quality and delivery of education." The award recognizes the Satya Bharti School Program, the flagship program of Bharti Foundation for its ground-breaking contribution in the area of providing quality education for the underprivileged children in rural India especially the girl child.

The Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence (also referred as ET Awards) are annual awards conferred by The Economic Times in the field of business, corporate and government policies, economies in India. The Corporate Citizen of the year category specially "honors the contribution to public good through commitment to critical social causes that influences the lives of thousands of needy people."

On receiving the award, Mr. Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Co-Chairman, Bharti Foundation, said, "We are delighted at this recognition for improving the quality and delivery of education through the Satya Bharti School Program. This award is a tribute to the relentless efforts of the team at Bharti Foundation. Bharti Foundation was set up in 2000 as the philanthropic wing of Bharti Enterprises to bridge the existing education divide and make quality education accessible to all underprivileged children across rural India. The Foundation currently runs 236 primary schools and one secondary school across the states of Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and provides education to over 30,000 students.

Bharti Foundation in the past has also received various national and international acclaims for its social initiatives few of which includes the Asian CSR Award for the Support and Improvement of Education at the 7th Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility in 2008 and the Social and Corporate Governance Award for Best Practices in Corporate Social Responsibility 2009 by the Bombay Stock Exchange Limited, Nasscom Foundation and Times Foundation. It also won the Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in 2006.
