Bharti Airtel announces the appointment of Gopal Vittal as Group Director - Special Projects

New Delhi, February 2, 2012: Bharti Airtel Limited ("Airtel"), a leading telecommunications services provider with operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa, today announced the appointment of Gopal Vittal as Group Director - Special Projects with effect from April 3, 2012.

Gopal will be responsible for formulating and supporting Airtel’s international strategy and building a world-class data business. In order to have a deeper understanding of various facets of the business, including data, in the international context, Gopal will spend the first year with SingTel in their Singapore and Australia operations.

Gopal will join Airtel from Hindustan Unilever, where he was heading the US$3.5bn Home and Personal Care Division. He brings with him very rich experience in areas of business building, marketing, distribution and new product development that he has acquired as a result of various global and national responsibilities that he has held at Unilever.

He previously worked with Airtel as Director - Marketing from 2006 to 2008 and made significant contribution towards driving revenue growth and market leadership. In addition, he helped build Airtel as an iconic brand.
